An ideal proposal for cultural travellers seeking scenery, sea and fine dining in a green and legendary northern land.

Itinerary
  • Day 1: Madrid → A Coruña (4h) — seafront and Tower of Hercules

Train departure to A Coruña, a city open to the Atlantic. First glimpse of its long seafront promenade and scenic viewpoints.

Visit the Tower of Hercules, a Roman lighthouse and UNESCO World Heritage Site, and feel the waves crash against the rocks and the salty air of the Coruñan inlet.

Overnight stay in A Coruña. We recommend seafood and an evening stroll by the harbour.

  • Day 2: A Coruña — beaches and old town

Free day to explore the old town of A Coruña: María Pita Square, glass-fronted galleries, port, and seafaring and commercial districts.

Afternoon options: beach, museums or a drink on a terrace by the estuary. Suggestions include the aquarium or Science Museum, depending on interests.

Overnight stay in A Coruña.

  • Day 3: A Coruña → Santiago de Compostela (40 min)

Short journey to Santiago, historic final stop of the Camino de Santiago. Walk through cobbled streets, solemn squares and quiet cloisters.

Entry to the Cathedral is highly recommended, along with time to absorb its spiritual atmosphere. The university vibe and historic cafés complete the day.

Overnight stay in Santiago.

  • Day 4: Santiago de Compostela — old town (guided visit included)

A day to delve deeper into Santiago with a guided tour: markets, convents and museums. A slow pace to take in the golden stone and the sounds of Obradoiro Square.

Try the local tarta de Santiago and D.O. wines.

Overnight stay in Santiago. Final chance to shop for crafts in the old town.

  • Day 5: Santiago de Compostela → Vigo (1h30)

Head south to discover the Rías Baixas: vineyards, mussel platforms, and fishing villages with lively ports and maritime tradition.

Arrival in Vigo, a port city with views of the estuary and a modern vibe. Suggested: enjoy an albariño tasting at a local winery.

Overnight stay in Vigo. Evening stroll along the waterfront.

  • Day 6: Vigo and the coast

Free day. Option to sail to the Cíes Islands, a maritime-terrestrial national park of clear sands and protected waters, or follow the wine route.

Alternative: coastal trails and pulpo a feira in traditional taverns. Atlantic light accompanies every plan.

Overnight stay in Vigo. Advance booking for Cíes is recommended in high season.

  • Day 7: Vigo → Madrid (4h) — return by train

Train return to Madrid. Reflection on an Atlantic journey through sea, history and cuisine — memories of lighthouses and ancient cities.

Optional service: private transfer to station and, if desired, extra night in Madrid depending on availability.

End of services.

A legendary Atlantic north: lighthouses, cathedrals and estuaries connected by the pulse of the train.
